How To Make:
Step 1: Making the Paper Mache Clay
To begin constructing this eerie pumpkin, rip cardboard into small pieces, soak them thoroughly in water, and blend the mixture into a fine pulp before carefully squeezing out excess moisture. Mix the pulp with white PVA glue, cornstarch, dish soap, and a touch of Vaseline to form a smooth, workable papier-mache clay.
Step 2: Preparing the Can Base and Base Form
Next, prepare the base by cutting out facial openings on a clean aluminum soda can using a utility knife or scissors. Apply the paper mache clay onto the can to build the pumpkin’s main head shape. To smooth out the features without leaving harsh tool marks, lay plastic wrap over the wet clay and gently blend the eye sockets and mouth with sculpting tools before baking the form dry.
Step 3: Sculpting Fine Facial Details
Once the base is set, layer polymer clay over the eye and mouth areas to sculpt fine details like wavy lips and a long tongue. Press a piece of textured leather onto the polymer clay tongue to imprint realistic skin patterns, and use plastic wrap again to shape the middle crease line clean and sharp. Press tiny, sculpted polymer clay teeth onto the lips before baking the entire head structure.
Step 4: Sculpting the Witch Hat and Fitting Eye Sockets
For the witch hat, cover an aluminum bottle cap with papier-mache clay, shape it using a spatula, rest it in a bowl of cornstarch to support its structure, and bake. Drill and trim out the eye sockets on the pumpkin body to accommodate the custom resin eyes.
Step 5: Casting the Custom Resin Eyes
