Gift wrapping can look completely different with one small detail added to the top. A layered bow gives an ordinary package a fuller, more decorative finish without requiring complicated crafting skills.

- On the center fold, mark ½ inch and 2¼ inches from the center.
- On the diagonal folds, mark ½ inch and 3 inches.

Make the Large Template
For the largest bow, use these measurements:
- Center fold: ¾ inch and 2¾ inches
- Diagonal folds: ¾ inch and 4¼ inches
Connect the points, cut the template, and keep the edges clean so the ribbon can move around the shape without catching.
Wrap the Ribbon
Once the template is ready, choose ribbon according to the bow size:
- Small bow: about ¾-inch ribbon
- Medium bow: about ⅞-inch ribbon
- Large bow: about 1½-inch ribbon
- Place the end of the ribbon through the center of the template.
- Begin wrapping the ribbon around the numbered points.
- Follow the numbers in order so the loops build evenly around the star.
- Keep the ribbon reasonably flat as you work.
- For a small bow, make 2 rounds.
- For a medium bow, make 3 rounds.
- For a large bow, make 2 rounds.
- Cut away the excess ribbon when the wrapping is complete.
The most important part here is keeping the ribbon positioned consistently around each point. If one loop slips significantly out of place, the finished bow can look uneven.
Secure the Layers
- Hold the wrapped ribbon firmly at the center.
- Thread your needle.
- Sew through the ribbon layers at the center.
- Make sure the needle passes through the complete stack rather than catching only the upper layers.
- Knot the thread several times on the back to keep the loops together.
- Carefully remove the paper template from the ribbon.
