How To Make:
Step 1: Creasing the Base Grid
To construct your talking skull, begin by laying your square paper flat and establishing a precise grid foundation. Fold the sheet in half horizontally and vertically, creasing firmly and flattening it out between folds.
Turn the paper over and fold the outer edges inward to align perfectly with your center crease line, repeating on all four sides to form a crisp, balanced $4\times4$ crease grid across the entire square.
Step 2: Shaping the Skull Outline
Flip the paper back over and fold the outer edges to the nearest grid guideline, creating the structural side flaps.
Work symmetrically across the top and bottom sections, folding the outer corners inward diagonally to soften the square edges and form the classic tapered contours of a skull cheekbone and jawline.
Step 3: Forming the Interactive Mouth & Handles
With the outer shape established, focus on bringing the center section into three dimensions. Carefully pull the top and bottom central flaps outward while pushing the interior crease lines inward, forming an open, expandable box-like structure that acts as the jaw hinge. Secure the structural integrity by reinforcing the outer corner folds along the back, which naturally forms two hollow finger pockets behind the skull structure.
