4th of July truck
To make this vibrant truck, you will use a Cricut machine. The process begins by downloading a free design from CraftWithSarah.com. You’ll then upload the files to Cricut Design Space and carefully layer them to form the truck. The design uses different shades of paper to create depth and color. With some glue and foam squares, you can build a truck that looks like it’s bursting with fireworks! This project is not only simple but also a great way to spend time crafting as a family. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn and have fun with colors, shapes, and layers, making it ideal even for younger crafters.

- Lighting Tip: Proper lighting can help in crafting intricate designs effectively.
- Test Assembly: Layer the pieces first to ensure placement and design accuracy before securing them.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Download and Prepare the SVG File
- Unzip the downloaded folder on your computer.
- Open Cricut Design Space and create a new project.
- Click Upload > Upload Image, then browse for the SVG file (file starting with “SVG”).
- Ensure you upload the correct file:
- If the pieces appear stacked, you’ve uploaded the correct SVG file.
- If the parts appear scattered, cancel, and re-upload the correct SVG file.
Step 2: Resize the Truck Design
- Click on the design in your canvas.
- Close the padlock icon at the top of the width/height boxes to retain proportions.
- Adjust Width or Height to your desired size (e.g., 9.5 inches wide). Press Enter.
- Click Make It to separate parts by color.
Step 3: Adjust Placement in the Cutting Mat
- Change the paper size to A4 or as preferred.
- Reorganize overlapping pieces:
- Select an object, click the three dots, and choose Move Object.
- Place all pieces of the same color on one mat, ensuring nothing overlaps.
- Arrange stars and fireworks carefully to fit within a single mat.
Step 4: Cut the Pieces
- Load the cardstock into your Cricut machine, ensuring you use the two shades of red and blue and other colors for the layers.
- Press Continue in Design Space.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to cut each layer correctly.
Step 5: Prepare for Assembly
- Check all the pieces:
- Lay them out in stacked positioning to review color and alignment.
- Ensure no pieces are missing.
- Use good lighting to assist in working with intricate details.
Step 6: Begin Assembling the Truck
Base Layer:
- Start with the bottom layer of the truck. Choose between foam squares or glue to attach it to the next layer.
- Foam squares add dimension. Use small squares along the edges and interior for sturdy support.
- Peel the adhesive backing from the foam squares.
- Carefully align the layer and press it down to secure.
White Layer:
- Add foam squares to the white layer for dimension.
- Gently drop into position before applying pressure to seal.
Blue Layer:
- This will form the front of the truck. Use glue to attach this layer for even alignment. Be careful with delicate points on the design.
Fireworks Layers:
- Build the fireworks using multiple layers:
- Use glue for thin designs that include intricate patterns (e.g., white details and flag specifics).
- Align and carefully press down each layer to avoid smudging glue onto the design.
Step 7: Add Final Layers
- Orange Sections: Attach orange accents (truck sides and details) using glue to maintain a cohesive structure.
- Stars and Wheels:
- Glue orange wheel centers onto the main wheel layers.
- Decide whether to foam the stars for dimension or glue for a flat finish.
- Ensure all small accents (e.g., stars in fireworks) are securely placed.
- Recheck Alignment: Ensure each layer is properly aligned to avoid overlapping errors.
Step 8: Final Touches
- Inspect the finished truck design for dimension and alignment.
- Review the 3D effects created by foam squares and colored cardstock.
